Washington DC plane crash
The International Skating Union has expressed its views on the horrific plane crash in Washington DC. An American Airlines regional jet carrying 60 passengers and 4 crew members has collided with a helicopter. Figure skaters from the US and Russia are also believed to be among the victims. According to a news report by the CBSE, 19 bodies have been found so far and there is no news of survivors.
The International Skating Union and the global skating community are deeply saddened by the tragic accident involving an American Airlines flight in Washington DC last night. We are deeply saddened to learn that figure skaters, their families, friends and coaches were also on board the plane.
The ISU further said:
Our condolences are with all those affected by this tragedy. Figure skating is not just a sport or a close family. We stand together in this difficult time. We are in close contact with US Figure Skating and will offer our full support. The skating community is mourning this heartbreaking loss. More updates are expected as the situation evolves.
